Sunshine is almost guaranteed year round. Prices and crowds are not. Here is how to time it.
Go in late April to June or November to mid-December for the best mix of dry weather, warm sea and sensible resort prices. Go January to March if budget is no object and you want guaranteed sun. Go September to October for rock-bottom rates if you're comfortable with hurricane-season risk and buy travel insurance.
Dry, 27–30°C, low humidity, cool evenings. Resorts run at full occupancy and rates are at their highest, especially Christmas, New Year and US spring break (mid-March). Book 6+ months ahead for the Sandals and Secrets resorts.
Still mostly dry with short afternoon showers. Sea temperature rises, crowds thin after Easter, and adults-only rates drop noticeably. Our favourite window.
Hottest months with higher humidity. Family resorts are busy with summer holidays, but adults-only resorts are calmer than in spring. Prices are mid-range.
Heart of hurricane season. Direct hits on Montego Bay are rare but rain is more frequent. Rates are the lowest of the year and free-cancellation bookings on Trip.com make this a smart gamble for flexible travellers.
Rain eases, crowds haven't arrived, prices are still low until mid-December. Excellent value.
Reggae Sumfest (mid-July) fills Montego Bay and pushes prices up for that week. Jamaica Carnival (April) is centred on Kingston but spills over. US college spring break (March) makes the lively resorts, particularly Breathless and Riu, noticeably rowdier.
